From May to August of 2019 I lived with the Salesian sisters in Zway, Ethiopia.  They have a very busy and exciting mission in Zway running a feeding center, a K-12 School, a college, women promotion program and an oratory.  Through my time there I helped to run a sponsorship program for the school and tutored in English. I also got to experience oratory with the children on the weekends, playing games and learning the art of embroidery.

Living in community with the Sisters was such a positive experience, their dedication to the people of Zway was so inspiring and helped me to grow in my faith.  Volunteering with the children and youth is always very rewarding, getting to share in their joy and hopefully help provide them a better future. Getting to know and spend time with local Ethiopians was also a great experience that you can’t get as a tourist.

My time in Zway was an amazing time in my life that I will never forget.  It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, it was so rewarding and humbling to take a step away and refocus on what is truly important.
